Are You Too Sexy for Cairo?

Hi Everyone, So you’re finally coming to Cairo and want to know what to wear? Well I finally made a video (after being asked about 100 times hehe) to show you what I think is appropriate and not appropriate to wear in a conservative country like Egypt. This is strictly my opinion of course, so take it for what it’s worth.

I have lived here for 5 years, and have finally realized what is BETTER in terms of getting harassed. Hehe I believe it also helps that I look less foreign and more like an Egyptian, so I probably get harassed a lot less, than say a blond girl would. Also, another thing that I didn’t touch on in the video that I wanted to discuss is something that you should also be aware of if you are staying in Egypt or anywhere in the Middle East for Ramadan.

Ramadan is the Muslim holy month where they give thanks to God (Allah) and fast every day from sunrise to sunset. It’s a joyous month of celebration, and families get together to cook and eat and break the fast.  (Please Google for more info about this subject)  This year it starts around June 26 or 27 and it lasts for one month. Every year it moves back about 10 days or so, so next year it will start around June 16. During Ramadan, you pray and fast and it is considered a very holy month. You must not do anything bad during this month and that includes looking at women in the wrong way. If you look at a woman in the wrong way you have ruined that day for your Ramadan and you must do a “make up” day after Ramadan ends. Out of respect for the culture and the men trying to do right, you should also be mindful of the way you dress even more. I dress the same usually, but if I want to wear a small, tight shirt I usually wear a scarf over it. I also usually wear less make up and don’t try to look too pretty or girly during this time. Hehe I have been yelled at in the street by women thinking I was too made up and my clothes were too tight and I was just wearing jeans and a short sleeve t-shirt.

I hope you enjoy the video. Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below.
